Protran Nitrocellulose Membrane Filters, Whatman Filters
Ideal for Western and Southern blotting techniques, protein transfers, colony and plaque lifts. White membranes are made of 100% nitrocellulose (no added cellulose acetate) for high binding capacity (80–100µg/cm2). Less than 1.0% extractables for cell growth and tissue culture applications. Quality controlled. To sterilize, membranes can be autoclaved (liquid cool cycle) or irradiated. The Protran BA-83 membrane (0.2µm) is recommended for protein samples below 20kD and the Protran BA-85 membrane (0.45µm) is recommended for general nucleic acid work.

Nytran SuPerCharge and Nylon Membranes, Whatman Filters
Nytran SuPerCharge membranes have a very high positive charge and feature greater density of nylon. They bind three times more negatively-charged dye than typical positively-charged nylon membranes. Membranes boast uniform pore size and distribution. This consistent morphology leads to greater reproducibility of results across a membrane and from blot to blot. Membranes deliver a high signal with extremely low background when used with radioactive or non-radioactive detection techniques. Nytran nylon membranes are ideal for applications that require a lower charge. These membranes are designed for Southern and Northern blotting, colony and plaque lifts, and dot- or slot-blots. Membranes are cast uniformly for excellent symmetry and to prevent curling. Butterfly membrane has asymmetric notches and tabs for easier handling, improved orientation, and identification of colony and plaque lifts.

Cellulose Acetate Membrane Filters, Whatman Filters
Membranes are made from pure cellulose acetate, making them ideal for biological and clinical analysis, sterility tests, and scintillation measurements. Filters exhibit very low protein binding capacity and are hydrophilic, making them suitable for aqueous and alcoholic media. The cellulose acetate membranes have improved solvent resistance, particularly to low molecular weight alcohols, and increased heat resistance. The membrane filters exhibit high physical strength and can be used up to 180°C (356°F), making them suitable for hot gases and allowing them to be sterilized by all methods without sacrificing the integrity of the membrane

Blotting Membrane Sandwiches, Whatman Filters
These time-saving precut blotting sandwiches are convenient for high throughput labs using chemiluminescent detection or other common detection methods, and match the most commonly used precast electrophoresis gels. Sandwiches are made with high-quality Protran nitrocellulose or Westran polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) membranes interleaved with 3MM grade blotting filter paper. The hydrophilic Protran blotting membrane is suitable for Western (protein), Southern (DNA), and Northern (RNA) blots, and has a very high binding capacity due to its sponge structure. It is suitable for all common detection methods (radioactive, colorimetric, fluorescent, as well as chemiluminescent detection based on horseradish peroxidase systems like ECL/SuperSignal/Luminol and all common staining methods). The Westran S protein sequencing membrane and the Westran CS (clear signal) protein blotting membrane are both made of hydrophobic PVDF, providing an excellent support for protein transfer due to the high affinity for proteins and broad compatibility with detection and analysis systems that the membranes share. The Westran S membrane is ideal for protein sequencing and has a very high protein binding capacity and excellent chemical resistance. It is also compatible for use in non-sequencing Western blotting applications. The Westran CS membrane is specifically designed for Western blotting and protein dot-blotting applications. This membrane features high protein capacity and increased signal over a wide range of molecular weights.

Minifold I Blotting Systems, Whatman Filters
Suitable for a variety of blotting applications. Systems consist of a sample plate, filter support plate, vacuum plenum, and metal clamping plate. Systems are compatible with multichannel pipettes. Sample plates are interchangeable for added flexibility. Clamping plate tension is adjustable to accommodate most blotting and filtration media. Slots in the slot-blot system 28151-166 can be easily quantitated, making this system ideal for densitometric scanning. The 48-well format allows for easy survey of samples. High signal intensity results from the 6mm2 sample application area. The 96-well spot-blot system 52844-796 requires a small volume, as low as 25µL, allowing less usage of sample. Very high signal intensity results from the 2mm2 sample application area. The 96-well dot-blot systems 28153-405 and 89026-980 feature a unique O-ring design, ensuring discrete dot formation without leakage of samples by cross lateral flow. System generates even, uniform dots, eliminating uneven test areas resulting from manual sample application. The dot-blot system is available in standard acrylic or autoclavable Delrin acetal resin construction. Sample area: 12.5mm2

Elutrap Electroelution System, Whatman Filters
Separates DNA, proteins, and nucleic acids from gels and gel slices without salt cushions, special buffers, or pretreated membranes. Sample recovery is 95% with normal use. When run overnight, sample recovery approaches 100%. Allows up to four different samples to be run simultaneously. For smaller samples, a simple adjustment allows concentration of volumes as low as 200µL.
